Current Research Activities (other than books and publications)

· Director of Electronic Research. American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR). Appointed by ASTR President Charlotte Canning (UTexas at Austin). Responsibilities include 1.) Defining what constitutes the practices of research in the context of ASTR for scholars within and beyond academia; 2.) Identifying journals and publisher/distribution channels within the field of theatre research; 3.) Creating guidelines for new researchers (e.g. MLA format, “Call for Papers” resources, requirements for refereed journals); 4.) Writing and editing “Doing Online Research in Theatre Studies;” 4.) Coordinating access to ASTR Research Groups; 5.) Maintaining links to online resources for theatre research and 6.) Organizing peer review.

· Selecting, editing and digitizing autochthonous Caribbean folktales narrated by noted Guyanese storyteller Ken Corsbie in streaming audio on the web, where many reside now as an integral part of my Caribbean Theatre online course developed through HETS-LAAP grant funding. Continually adding new features, new streaming audio and video applets and content.

· Director, Design Registry Database, United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT). Designed and coded prototype research tools. We have developed this project in consultation with SIBMAS (The International Association of Libraries and Museums in the Performing Arts), ATHE (Association for Theatre in Higher Education) and MERLOT (Multimedia Resource for Learning and Online Teaching). Each of these entities, as well as specific library collections, has an interest in the subvention and dissemination of the project’s development and outcomes. The Design Registry will help to advance the work of writers, historians, scholars and researchers.

Theatres of Greece and Rome (1987)
Shows in detail eleven Greek and eight Roman theatres, including Epidaurus, Dionysus, Orange, Aspendos and Pergamum.

Scenes and Stages: Medieval through Baroque (1988)
Traces stage design from the medieval passion plays through Bibiena’s elaborate designs including the Elizabethan stage, Drury Lane and Drottingholm. Special emphasis on Italian renaissance architecture including the Teatro Olimpico and the Teatro Farnese at Parma.
